ingredients
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 cup milk
½ cup vegetable oil
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ cup boiling water
frosting
1.5 sticks (3/4 cup) softened butter
½ cup cocoa powder
2.5 cups icing sugar
¼ cup milk
method:
Add flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt to a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer. Whisk through to combine or, using your paddle attachment, stir through flour mixture until well combined. Add milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla to flour mixture and mix together on medium speed until well combined. Reduce speed and carefully add boiling water to the cake batter until well combined.
Pour into a 9 inch prepared baking pan. Place in the Convection Steam Oven and bake on Auto Steam Bake Mode for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick/cake tester is inserted in the center of the chocolate cake and it comes out clean.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 10 minutes, remove from the pan and cool completely. While your cake bakes you can make the frosting.
In a stand up mixer with the whisk attachment, beat the softened butter until light and fluffy, add half the icing sugar and half the milk on low speed. When incorporated add the cocoa powder, remaining icing sugar and milk. Scrape down the sides if needed and transfer icing to a small container or a piping bag.
Serve with strawberries and shaved chocolate sprinkles.
